Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, is the setting for a WP Fuelled British GT Championship this weekend.
Practice sessions have already started ahead of the competitive racing on Saturday and Sunday. The first two sessions have seen two red flags as Marco Attard and Alexander Sims in the #79 Ecurie Ecosse BMW Z4 GT3 set the fastest time of the hour with a 2mins 21.826secs. Attard and Sims are currently placed second and third, respectively, in the drivers championships and a good performance from either could see them taking the top spot.
As it stands the drivers’ championship could not be tighter going into this event, with nothing between the top two drivers. Andrew Howard and Jonny Adam are both on 105 points and the chasing pack isn’t far behind. Fourteen drivers occupy the top 10 positions and a win from any one of them could have a major impact on the championship table.
This will be the fourth time that the British GT has visited the circuit with the last appearance coming in 2011. The 7.004 km track consisting of 20 turns plays host to a number of high profile motorsports events including Formula 1 which will be visiting the circuit later in the year.
With a relatively unfamiliar track full of turns and overtaking opportunities the outcome is extremely hard to predict and could lend itself to some shock results with drivers pushing themselves and their vehicles to the limit for the top spot.
